Philadelphia's Museum of Art is one of the largest of the US museums; the grand neoclassical building is a city icon. It houses masterpieces of painting, sculpture, decorative arts and architecture from Europe, Asia and the Americas. There are some significant highlights: Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, such as Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Cezanne's Large Bather; a famous collection of Oriental carpets; furniture and silverwork by early Philadelphia craftsmen.

Comments, reviews and questions by other travellers

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is located at the west end of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park. It is one of the largest museums in the United States and is modeled after London's Victoria and Albert Museum. The museum has had many famous visiting paintings and artist exhibitions in the past including Salvador Dali, Monet, Frida Kahlo, Greco, Van Gogh and many more. Some of these artists have permanent paintings at the museum as well. The museum is open all year round with admission on Sundays being “pay what you wish all day”. Guided tours as well as walk through tours are available.

Free for students, if you can produce some student ID.
