Housing fine arts dating back through antiquity, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is one of the top art museums in the United States. Showcasing civilizations from Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa, MFAH is home to Italian Renaissance paintings, French Impressionist works, photographs, American and European arts, African and Pre-Columbian gold, American art and more.
When Museum of Fine Arts, Houston opened its doors in 1924 it was the first art museum in Texas. Today it is the largest art museum in the southern United States.
With a total of 300,000 square feet, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston draws more than 2.5 million visitors per year. The active museum is central to the Houston community, and through outreach programs, it touches the lives of more than half a million people per year. The museum is also vital to scholars in the international arts community, as it has published more than 40 scholarly books in the last decade.
