The Miro Foundation (Fundacio Joan Miro) commemorates the life and work of Joan Miro, the Catalan Surrealist artist. Designed by the architect Josep Luis Sert – a good friend of Miro - the huge collection is housed in a Mediterranean style building, including roof terraces, gardens, and spacious courtyards. Over 14,000 examples of Miro’s paintings, sculptures and ceramics are displayed here, alongside the work of other contemporary artists. A special space – Espai 13 – is dedicated to promoting the work of young experimental artists.

Fundació Joan Miró, Centre d'Estudis d'Art Contemporani

Barcelona-born Joan Miró was an innovative, unconventional artist. His surreal-looking paintings, imaginative use of different mediums, and experimental style earned him a number of awards as well as an acclaimed international reputation. The Fundació Joan Miró is a museum that proudly displays 11,000 of the man’s various works, as well as works by other out-of-the box artists.
