Originally the collection of Electors of Saxony August II and III, the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister (The Old Masters Picture Gallery) in Dresden, Germany is known for its Renaissance and Baroque paintings. The collection includes work from Italian Renaissance painters such as Raphael, Giorgione, and Titian. Also worth noting is its display of seventeenth century Dutch and Flemish paintings as well as a large collection of Rembrandt's work. However, the Gemaldegalerie is most noted for its displays of Raphael's 'Sistine Madonna' and Giorgione's 'Sleeping Venus'. These two pieces, along with other known artists have made this picture gallery a prestigious home for many works of art.
