This Ottawa museum, in an award-winning glass and granite building, is home to Canada's premier collection of home-grown art. The Canadian displays include over 800 paintings, sculpture and decorative works ranging from 18th-century religious Qu'bec sculpture to the avant-garde paintings of the 1960s. There is an excellent section on 20th century Inuit art, as well as works by a wide range of American and international artists.

A glass and granite structure something along the lines of a rocket ship, The National Gallery of Canada building houses a varied collection of works, paintings, photographs, drawings and sculpture worthy of a national gallery and with the associated patriotic slant. The contemporary collection is especially impressive - pride of place going to some of Andy Warhol’s best known works (including ‘Brillo’ and ‘10 variations on Mao Tse-tung’) and the controversial 1990 purchase ‘Voice of Fire’ by Barnett Newman (just three stripes of paint for $1.8 million.).
