The Bauhaus school transformed 20th century attitudes to art, design and architecture. Many icons of our age owe their underlying principles to the modernizing influence of Walter Gropius, the school's founder, and those who shared his aim of blending function and form to create experimental buildings, products and works of art with clean lines, pared down structures and simple, mass-producible aesthetics. Among the movement's proponents were artists Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, architects Karl Keller and Hans Soeder and photographer Lyonel Feininger. Works by all of them and more can be seen at the Bauhaus Museum, as well as letters from luminaries such as Albert Einstein, Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier, with whom Gropius swapped ideas during his time as head of the school. The collection is housed in a building constructed to one of Gropius's own designs, and its rows of skyward-pointing, white curves form one of the most distinctive silhouettes on Berlin's skyline.
