The Penobscot River is located in the state of Maine, flowing from central Main 350 miles out to sea. The river is the longest river in the state of Maine. The actual drainage of the river amount to a total of 8,610 square miles. Only about 70 miles of the river are navigable, which is the stretch of river past the town on Bangor.

The New England area is well known for its wildlife and backcountry splendor. Most of the river locations give you a good mix of wildlife and forestry to make a beautiful landscape for outdoor recreation.

Canoeing, boating, fishing and whitewater rafting are great activities along the Penobscot River. Because the river features and size vary so much, a myriad of activities can be enjoyed.

Many of the whitewater in these Maine rafting sections of the Penobscot River are some of the most spectacular and challenging rapids in the East Coast. The short routes provide a quick drop in elevation, which then turns into roaring rapids.
