North of the Torres del Paine region is the equally awesome Fitzroy area where the mighty granitic towers of Monte Fitzroy and Cerro Torre soar into the sky like fantasy mountains. The town of Chalten is a useful base to explore the area, which has numerous hiking opportunities and for the serious climber, the ultimate challenge of Cerro Torre.
