Nowra is arguably Australia's sport climbing mecca with hundreds if not thousands of mainly short, well-protected sport routes at numerous locations about the town. Most climbs are single-pitch on hardened sandstone, and the cliffs are located in urban pockets about town and by the river, with quite easy access to most locations. Routes reach the low 30s in the Australian (Ewbank) grading system, but there are many classic routes with good protection offering something for everyone.

Rod Young has recently released "Rockclimbing at Nowra" which replaces the original Nowra guide. If you’ve forgotten the rope there’s also plenty of pumpy bouldering opportunities, and if you’ve had your fill of lycra, there’s the ‘hard-man’ cliffs of Point Perpendicular only an hour or so away, where you can scare yourself silly over the crashing ways below.
