Also called the New Mosque, this is one of the great sights of Istanbul, an Ottoman Imperial mosque built on the 'Golden Horn' on the south side of equally famous Galata Bridge. The sixty six small domes and half domes on the facade rise up in a pyramid shape, unlike the more regular large dome and minaret roofs of most mosques – but this mosque has those as well – the main dome thirty six metres high. A courtyard and walk covered by a graceful colonnade, also covered in smaller domes decorate the approach to the mosque on the western side.

Originally the mosque also functioned as a library.

Several Sultans and other members of the court are buried in the Yeni mosque's mausoleum.
