If you thought it would be impossible to build a mosque using the materials available to you on a tropical island you would be wrong. The Huskuru Miskiiy has the same lovely carvings and ornate inlaid decorations as the world’s loveliest mosques but is made of blocks of coral rather than bricks. Huskuru Miskiiy was built in 1658 but the sultan of the Maldives.

Even the headstones in the cemetery behind the mosque are examples of artfully carved coral.
