If you imagine this city without its themed, Vegas style shopping malls and hotels of epic architecture, then there wouldn't be that many landmarks. Of what's left, this mosque would be one of the most impressive, twin minaret towered and carved white stone domed roofed in the medieval tradition, the whole thing has a seashell like sheen if caught in the right light – which is something photographers are always trying to do.

What makes this mosque different is that you can take a tour around it, even if you're not Muslim, this is the only mosque in Dubai where this is possible. Tours happen at 10am on Sundays, Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for guests over five years of age. You don't need to book but it does cost 10dhms per person. Girls bring long sleeves and long skirts or trousers and something to cover your head with, boys need long trousers and covered shoulders. You're welcome to ask as many questions as you need though. The tour is mostly aimed to give a greater understanding of Islam, but there's a bit about the design and building of the mosque, which happened in 1978.
