Often acknowledged as Brunel"s defining opus, Paddington Station has a stature and atmosphere we naturally want to be a part of, that is not found in any other railway station. Approaching from the Underground, the arched roof rises high above you and on the ascent the whole tremendous interior reveals itself; light floods the central span from the Lawn roof, with the silhouettes of fine detail at the far end. The glazed roof is supported by wrought iron arches in three spans connected by 2 transcepts, a fourth span added by 1915 on the northern side. Brunel was helped in the architectural detailing by Matthew Wyatt.
