Madison Square Garden, is a deceptive distance away from Madison Square. This big 'ol multi-purpose stadium used to be on the square, but in this, its forth incarnation, it's not. It's on Pennsylvania Plaza (4 Pennsylvania Plaza 8th Avenue & 33rd Street), near Pennsylvania Station.

You can see all sorts at 'The Garden' from concerts to sports – OK, so largely just concerts and sports, but there are around 320 event put on here every year including dog shows, graduation ceremonies and sometimes the Grammys.

As well as being a venue, 'The Garden' is also home of the New York Rangers and the Knicks.

Billy Joel is a fan, he says: “Madison Square Garden is the center of the universe as far as I'm concerned. It has the best acoustics, the best audiences, the best reputation, and the best history of great artists who have played there. It is the iconic, holy temple of Rock and Roll for most touring acts and being a New Yorker, it holds a special significance to me. I'm honored to hold the record for Most Consecutive Nights Ever Sold at this world famous venue."

John Lennon played his last concert here and Elton John had his 60th birthday there on the 60th night of a 60 night tour.
