Located in San Francisco, the Cartoon Art Museum is one of the country’s only permanent collections of comic and cartoon art. Approximately 6,000 pieces make up the extensive permanent exhibits and feature original animation cells, comic books and early newspaper comic strips. The collection is home to comic art found in all mediums from comic books to graphic novels and anime, Sunday funnies and other weekend series. Throughout the year a handful of exhibitions for children and adults rotate through as well. The museum serves the community as a space for lectures, book signings, classes and workshops as well as a research library and bookstore.

Malcolm Whyte founded the museum in 1984 with fellow comic art fans. Since its founding, the museum has produced more than 100 exhibitions and 20 publications.
