This Saturday market is one of the liveliest attractions in town. Saturday shoppers on the P. de Roosevelt are greeted with stalls doused in clothes, ringing with musical offerings and neat lines of CDS and old records, and colourful locally grown flowers and fresh produce – the home grown specialities are an unusual pairing of mushrooms and Cointreau orange liqueur – not recommended mixed. This isn't the kind of market you bargain at, but the kind where you find a to-die-for-handbag that you have for years and everyone asks where you found it and are impressed.

Saumur has the château on the hill as you'd expect from a historic town by the Loire river, in this case it's a bit the worse for wear because of 15th Century attacks, and the cobbled streets and historic architecture. It also has a tank museum.
