Not just camels are on sale here but it sounds more exotic. This is a major livestock fair so you’ve got your horses, mules and cattle as well - around 50,000 animals - brought in by people from all over northern India - around 200,000 people and sold to the same. The highlights have to be the camels though, they’re not just sold but also dressed and raced - you think they’re not fast don’t you - well you’re quite wrong.
The thrill of the cattle fair aside, Pushkar is a nice place to stop. Surrounded by hills and sand dunes on all sides the town centres on a lake. Stories say there used to be many temples here but the main one these days is a Brahma Temple, the only one in India and a VERY important pilgrimage spot.
