This covered market deserves your attention not for its wares but because it's beautifully built, by the same designer responsible for Billingsgate and Smithfield Markets, though in this instance it's the paintwork in green, cream and maroon that adds a certain something to its classy look. It dates from the 14th Century, when it was a meat, poultry and game market on the spot once the centre of Roman London.
As far as shopping at Leadenhall it's a good place to pick up your special 'bits' – your posh cheeses and meaty treats and fresh flowers.
Leadenhall Market was also used as a location for the Harry Potter film – it plays Diagon Alley and the area round The Leaky Cauldron.
