The Izmailovsky Bazaar is drolly referred to as Russia's earliest attempt at capitalism – because it has the kind of bustling commercial activity of any flea market. At one end it's become a bit of a souvenir centre, sporting an army of nesting dolls and Soviet Era memorabilia, and other 'Russian Classics', but at the other end by the discount clothing stores you can find some more interesting trinkets. The wooden fortress is purpose built for the market, in case you were beginning to question the Russian military might, and the whole complex is built on top of a park which used to be part of the royal estate and was where Peter the Great hunted bore etc.

There aren't a lot of signs but the market is near Partizanskaya Metro Station.
