Yellow Waters is the bit of waterway where Jim Jim Creek branches off the South Alligator River – famous for crocodiles. In fact this whole area of wetland is famous for crocodiles, they run the street map of waterways, tributaries, floodplains, channels and swamps. But what this spot is really worth visiting for is its feathered inhabitants – something like 60 species make this billabong their home, including the jabiru bird, magpie geese and whistling ducks. Buffalo and wild horses are the other 'larger attractions'.
The paperback banks of the billabong are also where scenes from 'Crocodile Dundee' were filmed. The best way to see this place is on a morning or evening cruise, where your boat will bump the very delicious stalks of the pink and white waterlilies and the sun reflects off the waters.
