Scooping into a high altitude plateau among green, snow capped mountains, Son Kul Lake is a protected area and refuge to a myriad of bird life including the creatively named Whooper Swan. In the summer months local people graze their horses, yaks, cattle and goats on the lush grasses that spring up around the lake.
