The jungles and mountains of South Sulawesi shelter beautiful Lake Tempe from the outside world. Motorized canoes are a favorite mode of transport for the people who live on the lake, and the bamboo that grows just offshore is used to make boats and traditional fish traps. Floating houses on the lake’s fringe are a sight to see, as are the well-known local Burginese textiles, especially silk.
