Lake Sevan is a popular spot for holidaying Armenians because of its mountain air and white sandy beaches. It's also a great place to go fishing, famous for its ishkan trout. People have been living in the Lake Sevan region for centuries, artefacts dating back 2,000 years have been found here proving its not just recent generations who enjoy a sandy beach and clean air. The Sevan monastery, built in 875, and an excellent example of Armenian architecture, is located on a peninsula jutting into the lake.
