Crete only has one fresh water lake and this is it. But that’s not why it deserves a visit. It’s the way the white mountains are reflected in the lake and the line of colourful tavernas along the shore, as well as the clean water and view over to the wooded island in the centre of the lake that make this about as close to Lake Como picturesque-ness as you'll find in Greece.

Hire a pedalo and go out on the water terrapin spotting, relax on the strip of white sand on the lake’s shore or take a stroll in the olive groves that line its south eastern bank. Relaxing.
