Great Masurian Lakes District

Listed under Lakes in Poland.

This wide plateau is also known as the ‘Land of a Thousand Lakes’, but there are really around 4000, linked by rivers, canals and locks in an intricate lace like pattern of water. 15% of this district is covered by water, the final melted remains of a great ice age which once enveloped this part of Europe. Varied sizes and conditions make this region a sailor’s dream.
