Cabo Verde's sandy beaches, good wind and big waves has made it popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers and it's morphing from the quite spot it once was as money is spent on the tourist infrastructure. Level with

the canaries, Cabo Verde is in the perfect spot to take advantage of the trade winds. There are a few good spots for learners and some flat water but it's pretty much a wind lovers paradise.

Average waves are between 15 and 18 feet and are best when the cross off shore winds are blowing. The reefs which increase the wave size also make it dangerous for kiters.

This is a ruggedly beautiful rather than postcard beautiful place and though it's under development there isn't much here yet but sand, winds and waves. Accommodation is also limited, with small hotels and guest houses being the best bet - but don't expect air con and other creature comforts. The back end of summer seems to have the best conditions.
