Essaouira is a pretty popular spot for kiters and windsurfers, but I found that the two groups respect each other and MOST of the time theres enough space for both (I have seen some tempers get hot.). The kite beach is at the down wind end of the beach, it’s a pretty long beach and has sand banks that make for different kinds of conditions. Kite beach is at the big wave rather than flat water end with a shore break and right side shore winds and waves from about twenty or thirty yards out. It’s probably best for intermediate to advanced riders, but there is a kite school that uses the flat water further upwind. Locals say in the summer thermals off the land build up the trade winds, but I went too late (September/ October) and the wind came off from the left at the beginning of my stay - locals didn’t tell me about this. I had a small kit with me expecting big winds which was ok but there were bigger ones out there too. Lots of pros say this is a good place to train, cause the wind is pretty solid and I saw some strong riding. More importantly it’s a cool place to visit. More chilled than other places that I’ve been to in Morocco.

Hey, nice review! I'm thinking of going to Essaouira 2nd half of september, and I was wondering if you could give me some details on the wind? How strong is it? Will I be able to ride alot with my 9m Bandit Dos & 80 kg of bodyweight? Does it get deep fast? And where exactly is the beginner-friendlier-flat-water-spot (north or south of kite beach)?
Thx in advance!
Greets,
Stephan
