Exploring the Laguna Del Laja

Listed under Kayaking in Biobío, Chile.

This alpine lake was formed by an eruption of the adjacent Antuco volcano. Its turquoise waters are warm in summer despite the 7.000 ft above sea level of this lake that drains underground to form a spectacular spring amidst a scoria dominated landscape. Putting in from the slag beaches of the southern side of the lake, we paddle along the coast of the lake, camping in beautiful beaches backed up by old growth lenga forests where the puma still roams free. With the conical Antuco volcano in the background we will visit the inlets of the lake, admiring the local wildlife of more than 47 species of birds. This trip could be customized from 4 to 7 days, available from December to March.
