The Vosges Mountains are part of an ancient mountain range that once formed the boundary between France and Germany. La Route des Cretes winds amongst these mountains and begins at Col du Bonhomme. It was a road created during World War I to carry supplies over the Vosges, and today provides a magnificent touring route for both cars and bicyclists, with glimpses of the Black Forest across the border.
