74 islands make up the Whitsunday group, sprinkled down the Queensland coast surrounded by the bright blue waters of the Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. You may have heard the names: Arlie Beach: holiday town, Whitehaven Beach: with its pristine white silica sand, Bowen: for more perfect beaches, Laguna: for tropical island golfing, Heart Reef (you may have only seen photos of this - it’s a heart shaped reef off one of the barrier islands) and Proserpine for fishing, these are the known attractions, but visitors will discover there is more to explore.

You’ll find lagoons with fish for watching and for fishing, marine life of all kinds including something like 400 different kinds of coral, forested interiors and both indulgent and basic accommodation. You can sail around yourself or island hop, only eight of the islands are inhabited and some are National Parks so you need special permission, but there is plenty to do.
