Tresco is wonderful if you like short walks in the prettiest imaginable surroundings, especially when you consider that you are in the UK still. Flowers everywhere in Spring and Summer. There is nothing to match it except perhaps Flores and Corvo in the Azores. NO cars and few people make Tresco ideal for a family holiday. There's very good hotel that does very good food. However the rest of the Scilly islands are best left alone. They are cheaper but a lot less pretty, including the island a hundred yards off Tresco which is okay for a long walk, but the hotel there is best avoided. The hotel itself is fine but the service is amateur almost to the point of Fawlty Towers (even though its under the same ownership as the hotel on Tresco). Best to just go to Tresco and hire a cottage. Go for two days if a couple and up to a week if a family with children. It's safe and ideal for children and there's even a sailing club.

Tresco

Only a short distance from the mainland of Cornwall, the environment on Tresco is quite different to anywhere else in the UK. The north of the island has rocky granite peaks and heath-like plants, while the south has subtropical plants and even sandy beaches.

One of Tresco's main attractions is the Tresco Abbey Gardens, where 20,000 different types of plants vie for space in the mixed up terrain.

You can only get to the island via helicopter, and once you’re there walking or cycling and the best modes of transport.
