Listed under Islands in Scotland, United Kingdom.
Almost flat and definitely treeless, this island is perfect for windsurfers, people who like expansive views and those with dendrophobia (fear of trees and forests). Tiree makes up for its short comings with a ring of lovely white beaches and a soft cushioning of thick grass which sprouts with wildflowers in the spring. It’s also well positioned for good, warm, sunny weather – generally better than on the mainland.
You might have heard of the island from the shipping forecast – it’s very important in nautical circles – or you might be searching for somewhere quiet for a good game of golf, a ride on the beach or some windsurfing and stumble across talk of it.
