Ten islands make up this remote group, the most northerly territory of the Philippines, closer to Taiwan than the rest of the country. This distance has been a major factor to these island throughout history. Meteorologically the islands are in a key spot to bear the brunt of typhoons; the rainy season lasts between June and February, which has meant that while cultures living in the rest of the Philippines lived in houses made of plant materials, locals from the Batans built their tiny fishing villages partly from stone. Spanish churches and two storey limestone country style houses with roofs a metre thick are the other man made structures on the islands. Cultural differences don’t stop with housing - these people have adapted to their surroundings, so their boats, methods of fishing and farming and their arts, stories and legends all differ from the rest of the Philippines. The weather has ruined several villages, one which wasn’t rebuilt and is a good spot for people interested in cultural sightseeing. Beautiful beaches, a dormant volcano, burial caves and the green interior make up the rest of the backdrop. Swim, fish, walk, dive, you’ve got a good chance of doing it alone.

The Batanes they say its just like Ireland, the view is infinite, it is the meca of photographers - picturesque rolling hills, light houses, boulder beach, best place to stay here is Fundacion Pacita the only resort built on top of the hill, giving you a beautiful view.
