Largest Canary and best known by big tour operators looking for reliable sunshine for their beach lover, relaxation focused clients not worried about sharing their Spanish holiday with other English speakers, Tenerife does what it says on the box. The south side of the island gets the most sun to its rocky, sandy shores, while the north is greener and more humid.

If you want a days outing off the beach there are a couple of choices: if you’d like to get your blood pumping through your now relaxed limbs, Spain’s tallest mountain, El Teide, is on Tenerife and ripe for the climbing or trekking, as is the Tiede National Park, in winter you can ski in the morning and sit on the beach in the afternoon.

As far as holiday makers, the UK has the largest numbers of sun seekers Tenerife bound, who share their towel space with, in descending order of numbers, Germans, Belgians and Dutch visitors. This has been going on since the 1890’s so expect good infrastructure and plenty of resort style entertainments, even though you’ll probably want to spend most of your time on a beautiful, sunny beach.
