Boasting over 70 beaches, the island of Skiathos is a great if sometimes under-rated destination. Moving inland, most of the rest of the island is either forested or used as farmland. The permanent population of the island is just over 6,000, though in winter this drops to 4,000 people - with up to 70,000 at any one time in summer.

In addition to beaches, there are many monasteries to visit inland.
