Palawan Island is in the island province of Palawan between the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea.
Remote Northern Palawan has pristine natural features including lakes encircled by steep limestone cliffs and the almost untouched Coron Reefs, however because of its remoteness it is more threatened by careless tourism.
The southern areas have better tourism infrastructure and there are still lots of nice beaches and the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park to explore.
Palawan is great for diving of all standards and has wreck diving as well as reef diving. The remains of 12 Japanese WW2 warships are strewn along the coastline and you may be lucky enough to see one of the worlds rarest marine animals, the dugong.
Palawan also has mangrove forests, mountain rainforests and is home to exotic creatures like the endemic mousedeer and scaly anteater. In addition to the natural wonders, Palawan has cosmopolitan centres where all kinds of accommodation, water sports and a lively nightlife are on offer.
