It may be Sweden’s smallest island, but Öland seems to have enough

natural beauty and manmade wonders for an entire country. Examples of

life in the Iron Age such as Rönnerums ancient village coexist

beautifully with the famous 19th century Lerkaka windmills and the

fairy-tale landscape of the Troll Forest. The romantic setting of

ancient castles, burial grounds, dramatic scenery and windmills has

given rise to a thriving artistic community with charming festivals and

many exhibitions of local, traditional art.
