Great scenery, if somewhat treeless. Great for serious walking and hill climbing. Cab boggy and lots of scree climbing up to the higher peaks. Very uninhabited in most parts. Friendly locals who still speak Gaelic as well as English. Good B and B's and reasonably priced.

Isle of Skye (Eilean a Cheo)

The pointed, rocky landscape, tall cliffs and lacework of inlets, coves and beaches of the Isle of Skye makes it a popular destination and a beautiful backdrop to a holiday.

As well as spectacular scenery, Skye is known for its wildlife, including the golden eagle, the otter and the red deer, its ancient castles and monuments built mostly by the clans MacDonald and MacLeod, its postcard perfect harbour and its whiskey production.

The Isle of Skye is a popular spot to walk, dive, cycle, mountain climb, sail and go bird watching. It is also a great place to immerse yourself in history and traditional highland lore (and a fascinating old language.).
