Hydra is another small island in the Saronic Gulf that relies heavily on tourism from nearby Athens. Cars are not allowed on the island so transportation duties fall to donkeys and water taxis.

The largest town, Hydra port, caters to most visitors with numerous restaurants, markets, and hostels. An island of only 2000 people, Hydra is great for a relaxed and unhurried getaway from the bustle of Greece's bigger islands, and is a firm favourite with monied Greeks.
