Hvar is one of the most charming islands off the Croatian coast, well known for its secluded sandy coves, archeological sites, (the island was at the centre of a thriving culture in 3000BC), and its hills of lavender, heather and rosemary. A creeping fast food tourist culture is beginning to appear on the island, but it's still largely unspoilt. It's a great place for hiking - there are incredible views from the mountain ridge that bisects the island.
