How blue can a blue sea be? Pretty blue, Grand Baie will have you know. This bay and beach is alongside one of the most popular resorts in Mauritius, so as well as the blue of the ocean visitors have the full comfort of resort facilities.

The size and shape of the bay mean that there’s space for sun lounge-ers as well as for the watersports-people taking advantage of the safe conditions for water skiing, windsufing and a bit further out sailing and fishing – in many cases being done by local fishermen.

Grand Baie is also popular with the cruise ship itinerary planners, and it’s the main departure port for northerly Mauritian cruising. The sand leaves something to be desired, but the town itself is cosmopolitan and the nightlife good.
