This smallish island is home to over 100 species of bird, the kinds who like rocky shores, rolling dunes, sparse forests and open beaches. During the summer months the island is a breeding ground for some quite rare sea birds, so most of it has been made into a National Park.

As well as the birds the island is inhabited by tree snakes, monitor lizards, geckos and skinks – so it must once have been part of the mainland – and the fringing reef off shore is home to some colurful and impressive marine life.

The best way to see the island is from the walking tracks which wind over it – it's about a four hour walking circuit size.

It's possible to stay overnight, either in the flashy resort or in the camp ground.
