Bainbridge Island is in the Puget Sound, but unlike most of the other islands in the sound it's inhabited and quite large. And it's supposed to be one of the nicest places to live in the whole U S or A, so well worth your visit if only to see how the other half are living. The people of this island have a reputation for wanting to keep things nice as well, which you can see when you stroll around it – they're big on conserving green space and limiting development to projects they see as fittingly charming.

All quips at the locals aside (for it's just jealousy), this is a very beautiful, leafy corner of the world. Peaceful, charming and quiet – without being dull – it's well within the sights of Seattle proper.
