Lived in continuously by the Howard family since it’s completion (after one hundred years of building alterations, additions and improvements to both the buildings and the gardens.) early in the 18Th Century. Our contemporary’s probably remember Howard Castle best as Brideshead, as it was used in the 1980’s TV adaptation. Previous generations may remember it best for its striking, symmetrical white exterior with a gilt dome rising from the centre.
