The Serengeti Sopa Lodge is some distance from the Serena in a fantastic position high on a westerly escarpment near Moro Kopjes. It is an older hotel, dating from the late 1970s, with its two-storey buildings spreading out to either side of the central communal areas designed so that all rooms enjoy the excellent views.

The rooms are decorated in an intriguing, charming Swahili style, with an impressively vast main reception hall that is soon to become a glass fronted atrium with views out over the large pool to the plains beyond.

The general atmosphere is one of colourful comfort over homogenised style, with good views from the restaurant and the service is good with the restaurant providing an exceptionally varied range of local foods.

The hotel is currently having a full face lift to brighten it up and it has a friendly and welcoming feel. All of the 79 rooms have a truly exceptional view out over the Plains and the new rooms look to be even better with walk in showers and balconies. The hotel has a good location in the park, but for our money, it struggles to compete with the Serena as, due to the layout of the Serena being far better, it can feel overcrowded.
