It's hard to beat historic Mansion Iturbe for character and value - and it is also located right on the town's main square. We love the cozy rooms with their dark wooden furniture; to snuggle beneath layers of blankets during Patzcuaro's chilly winter evenings and then wake to brilliant sunshine on another cloudless day. The mansion was the dowry given to Doa Francisca de Iturbe y Ancila (Doa Paca) on her marriage in 1830. Descendents of this noble family manage the hotel today and have created one of the most charming small hotels we've found in Mexico, with a warm welcome and attentive service.

You'll find many extras included in the room rates at Mansion Iturbe - such as full breakfast, morning newspaper, and a coffee station during the night. This is also an excellent place to gather knowledge about the surrounding areas. Tours to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, Janitzio Island and local artisan towns such as Santa Clara del Cobre are highly recommended. Be sure to spend some time in the hotel's two restaurants. The Doa Paca Cafe offers some of the best regional cuisine in the area, and El Viejo Gaucho is a great place to while away the evening in this quiet town - live music, a wide choice of beers, wines and spirits, plus an unusual South American themed menu. A visit to Patzcuaro is even more appealing now that the fast highway to the coast has opened. Traveling time to Zihuatanejo from Patzcuaro is now around three hours, so you can easily combine the cultural attractions of this region with a few days by the beach. Or we can help you plan a tour of the colonial cities - Patzcuaro is also only three hours drive from San Miguel de Allende.
