Kiwayu is set on a beautifully secluded beach approximately 30 mins flying time north of Lamu and has been blessed with both space and miles of squeaky soft sand. The main hotel comprises 18 bandas, all built out of local woods and softened with doum palm matting throughout. Each has a private aspect from the veranda and hammock to the stunning bay and the ocean beyond. This region is such an untouched paradise that the World Wildlife Fund has a post here to study the turtle that are to be frequently found flapping their way up the beaches at night (best season being April to September and December to February). As far as activities are concerned, it is possible to go game fishing, water skiing in the shelter of the nearby Kiwayu island, sailing, snorkelling (in November and December and February to March) and day trips to Lamu can also be accommodated.

This really is a beautiful and secluded region that has beaches to die for. The onus here is on utter relaxation and tranquillity with long beach walks and sun set picnics the norm. Owner operated by George Moorehead and his wife, the standards of food and service are excellent and attention to detail has really been applied throughout, from the standard, huge bandas, to the private, honeymoon island. The best times to visit are from September through to April although it can get very windy just before the turn of the trade winds in October/November. The only real drawback is the difficulty to get here..but that is also part of the attraction.
