Basico offers unique and stylish accommodation right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. The hotel has a striking and unusual design in which the designer has blended the motifs of traditional Mexican culture with the significant and far-reaching influence that the discovery of oil has had on the country. As a result the hotel features many unusual combinations of traditional and industrial materials including cotton, wood, concrete and rubber. The lobby features an old fashioned elevator, juice bar, beach towels, flippers and buckets for the beach.

The design and simplistic decor of the rooms is basic to the point of minimalism, yet they still manage to ooze style, and feature modern conveniences like satellite TV, DVD player and a cordless telephone. Like its sister hotel Deseo, which is located just a block away, the hotel attracts a young hip clientele that likes to party. It has a fabulous central location right on 5th Avenue and Calle 10, close to a multitude of restaurant and bars, and the hotel's rooftop terrace features a live DJ in the evenings with strictly Latin-style music. All this means that it can get quite noisy, especially in the Town View and Ocean View Rooms which both have large windows facing the streets, so it's definitely not for those looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday! But if you're looking to stay somewhere ultra chic and modern and enjoy some of that legendary Mexican nightlife then Basico needs to be on your list!
