Natural hot springs set amongst lush tropical rainforest now turned into a resort but not over done. Grim but true, hot springs in the Japanese style were first built here by Prisoners of War in the second World War, that’s why the style is very reminiscent of Japan. Part of the Kinabalu National Park, which is best known for its montane rainforest, orchids and rafflesias, Poring also has a butterfly farm and Orchid House. Mt. Kinabalu used to be a volcano but these springs are the last remnants of thermal activity.
