Peking International Youth Hostel

Listed under Hostels in Beijing, China.

This hostel has location, location, location, about five minutes walk from the East Gate of the Forbidden City and Tianamin Square, and it’s a converted traditional house built around a large garden courtyard and decorated in the Chinese style with antique furniture and brightly coloured walls, so it fits in with its historic surrounds. This is a leafy, historic area close to the hutong lanes – great for cheap food and shopping.

You don’t get the luxury of a free breakfast but you can pay for a continental or a local style morning meal and for bike hire, or cable TV or a hair dryer, depending how far you like to rough it – either way the Peking International also has a sauna, café/ bar and TV room, so you’re in good hands. A reading room, a restaurant, a mini supermarket and a tour desk are also part of the deal and you can choose from a selection of rooms ranging from private singles or family rooms to dorm rooms sleeping up to 12 people.
